It’s Cherry Blossom Season Philadelphians!
Spring has finally sprung in the city and that can only mean one thing — Cherry Blossom season is also on its way! Philadelphia is home to a dazzling display of cherry blossom trees that make spring in the city all that much brighter and fun! Blooming a little bit later than their distant cousins in our neighboring city of Washington DC, Philly’s cherry blossoms are expected to hit peak bloom around April 9 through April 16 this year according to Morris Arboretum officials. So if you want to put a little spring on your step (or your social media feeds) make sure to check out these blooming awesome spots around the city which are full to the brim with vibrant cherry blossom trees!
1. West Fairmount Park
One of our favorite spots to catch a glimpse of the blossoming sakura trees is West Fair Mount Park. Head on over to the Please Touch Museum where you’ll find multiple rows of radiant cherry blossoms or head on over to the Fairmount Orticulutral Center where you’ll find a very similar spectacle. But one of our absolute favorite spots may just be the stone gazebo, where the rows of vibrant cherry blossoms surrounding the gazebo make for the perfect picture moment.
2. Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center & Garden
Another great spot to see Philly’s sakura trees is, of course, the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center also in Fairmount Park. This magical site is home to multiple cherry blossoms, including a decades-old weeping cherry tree, which lives right by the house’s koi-fish pond!
3. Kelly Drive
Can there be anything more beautiful than a view of the Philly skyline and the Schuykill River framed by the blossoming cherry trees? Kelly Drive is home to a spectacular display of cherry blossoms which makes it the perfect spot for spending a sunny day surrounded by beautiful sakura blossoms and incredible views of the city. For an optimal view of the trees head on over to the intersection of Girard Avenue and Kelly Drive, located just north of Boathouse Row.
4. Drexel Park
Drexel Park is another great spot to enjoy the cherry blossoms with a side of breathtaking skyline views. Located by Drexel University, this former industrial site is now peppered with wonderful cherry trees that put a little spring on everybody’s steps this time of year!
5. Morris Arboretum
Located in NorthWest Philly, Penn’s Morris Arboretum is home to countless natural wonders including a gorgeous trail covered in cherry blossom trees! Note: For 2021, Morris Arboretum will require visitors to book their visits ahead of time.
6. Longwood Gardens
Known for hosting one of Philly’s most dazzling holiday displays each year, Longwood Gardens are also home to a variety of cherry blossom trees. Here you’ll be able to bask in the blooming beauty of trees like the Okame Cherry and the Weeping Higan Cherry bloom which will leave you dreaming of sakura blossoms for days!
