Philadelphia’s social scene just welcomed a new kind of hangout, and this one skips alcohol entirely. Old City Kava Company has softly opened at 40 S. 2nd Street, introducing an intentional, alcohol-free botanical café and lounge in the heart of Old City.
Described as “your go-to botanical café and lounge,” the space is built around the idea that non-alcoholic nightlife can still feel fun, stylish, and social.
Instead of cocktails, the menu focuses on thoughtfully crafted botanical drinks designed for relaxation, clarity, or an energy boost.
🍵 Old City Kava Company: Daytime café to nighttime lounge
During the day, Old City Kava Company feels like a bright and welcoming café. It’s an easy place to bring a laptop, meet a friend, or enjoy a quiet moment with coffee or tea.
As night falls, the lighting softens, the mood deepens, and the space transforms into a cozy, low-lit lounge that feels perfect for a night out.
Even without exterior signage or a formal grand opening, interest has been strong. The café drew more than 60,000 Instagram profile visits in a single week, showing just how curious Philly is about alcohol-free social spaces.

👀 What’s on the menu?
The menu highlights local partnerships and comforting flavors.
Kombucha is brewed in Philly by Funky Fresh Fermentary, with options like Lavender Lemongrass, Pomegranate Rose, Strange Magic, and Magical Realism. Herbal and caffeinated teas are curated by Random Tea Room, while coffee comes from Reanimator Coffee, including hot drip coffee and cold brew.
Signature drinks include the Matcha Citrus Refresher, made with bright lime, fresh mint, ceremonial matcha, and ginger. Then there’s the Spiced Golden Milk, a cozy blend of turmeric, chai spices, coconut crème, and vanilla. For coffee lovers, the Old City Red Eye combines cold brew, coconut crème, and sweet cold foams.
Each signature drink is crafted with full servings of kava and kratom for a deeper botanical experience.
Lastly, there’s also a rotating selection of locally baked sweet and savory French pastries for anyone looking for a small bite.

✨ Perfect for Dry January and beyond
With Dry January around the corner, Old City Kava Company feels especially timely. But it’s just as welcoming year-round for anyone who’s sober, sober-curious, cutting back on alcohol, or in recovery.
It’s also a great option for anyone simply looking for a cozy new local hangout that doesn’t revolve around drinking.
More than anything, it’s proof that Philly’s social scene is evolving— and that fun, connections, and vibes don’t always require booze.
