So, why did Philadelphia make the cut? According to Travel + Leisure, Philadelphia’s biggest draw right now is its ever-evolving food scene. While the city’s rich history remains a major appeal, it’s’ the wave of innovative, award-winning chefs that turning heads nationally and internationally.
Amanda Shulman, co-founder of Libbie Loup Hospitality and executive chef of Her Place Supper Club, summed it up best, noting that there’s a constant stream of exciting new restaurants experimenting with flavors, formats, and vibes.
From Southeast Asia-inspired noodle spots like Mawn, to elevated Mexican cafés such as La Jefa, and longtime fine-dining favorites like Vetri Cucina, Philly’s culinary landscape continues to expand in bod directions.
Global tastemakers are clearly paying attention. Philly recently earned its own section in the Michelin Guide Northeast Cities, bringing even more national recognition to the city’s dining scene.
Big events are putting Philly on the world stage

However, food isn’t the only reason 2026 is shaping up to be a big year.
Philadelphia will play a major role in America250, the nationwide celebration marking 250 years since the founding of the United States.
The city will also host six FIFA World Cup matches at Lincoln Financial Field in June and July, drawing visitors from around the world.
Between headline-making events, global recognition, and a food scene that continues to level up, Philadelphia’s spot on Travel + Leisures’s list feels well earned.
If you needed a reason to stay local or plan a visit next year, 2026 might just be Philly’s time to shine.
