
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation hosted its much-anticipated annual gala, Wonders Beyond Words.

This annual event, held in celebration of the library’s vital role in community, honored A. Morris Williams, Jr., a longtime advocate and Emeritus Board Member. Williams’ visionary support has been essential in advancing the library’s mission and expanding its impact across Philadelphia.
Monique Moore-Pryor, President of the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, praised Williams for his dedication and leadership, which have guided the library through pivotal moments in its history.
“Morris, your vision, your dedication, and your quiet yet powerful leadership have helped guide this institution through pivotal moments. We are so fortunate to have had your guidance and support, and tonight’s celebration is just a small token of our appreciation,” Moore-Pryor said. “Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.”
Moreover, the evening was not just a tribute to Williams but also a celebration of collective impact the library and its supporters have made.
Moore-Pryor further remarked, “Tonight is about honoring the impact we’ve made together, the future we are building, and the stories that inspire us to keep going. So, as we enjoy this special gathering, let’s take a moment to toast to the power of libraries, the strength of our community, and the vision that drives us forward.”

Supporting the future of the Free Library
Indeed, Wonders Beyond Words is an important event to sustaining the future of the library. Specifically, the gala raised vital funds for the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation’s programs, which impact the lives of over 2.2. million Philadelphians annually.
These programs included One Book One Philadelphia, Read by 4th, job seeker assistance, culinary literacy initiatives, services for seniors, and outreach to immigrants.
Proceeds from the event directly supports the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to sustain and enhance all 55 library locations, including the renowned Parkway Central Library and 54 neighborhood libraries across the city.
The Foundation also provided crucial support to The Rosenbach Museum and Library. Together, these libraries make up one of Philly’s most influential educational institutions.
