Summer officially arrives on June 20, and The Franklin Institute is celebrating the season in a big way with an afternoon packed with science, music, interactive activities, and family-friendly fun.
The Franklin Institute Summer Block Party will take over the museum’s front steps, atrium, and galleries from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., transforming one of Philadelphia’s most iconic institutions into a lively summer celebration.
Science meets summer fun 🔬
Designed for visitors of all ages, the event combines hands-on learning with festive entertainment.
Guests can enjoy a variety of experiences throughout the day, including:
- 🔬 Telescope-assisted solar viewing ahead of the summer solstice
- 🫧 Giant soap bubble demonstrations and open bubble play
- 🎥 A live weather science show hosted by NBC10 meteorologist Justin Godynick
- ⚽️ Soccer-themed science activities within the Philadelphia Union
- 🎶 A dance party led by DJ Ben Arsenal of the museum’s front steps
- 😃 Interactive learning activities through PNC’s Grow Up Great program
Select Philadelphia Union players and beloved mascot Phang are also expected to make appearances throughout the event.
A summer kickoff for the whole family 🌞
Known for blending education and entertainment, The Franklin Institute is bringing the celebration outdoors this year with programming spread across multiple areas of the museum.
Whether you’re testing your reaction time through soccer challenges, learning how storms form during a live weather demonstration, or dancing on the front steps, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from The Franklin Institute’s Eatery, making it easy to spend the afternoon exploring all the festivities.
The event takes place rain or shine on Saturday, June 20, and all indoor programming is included with general admission. Visitors who don’t have tickets can still enjoy select activities on the front steps free of charge.
