Astronomically speaking, summer kicks off on June 20, 2025, with the summer solstice -but according to the Farmers’ Almanac Summer Weather Forecast, the heatwave could show up earlier than usual this year.
Farmers’ Almanac Summer 2025 weather outlook
So, what’s the vibe for summer 2025 in Philadelphia and the rest of the Northeast?
In a nutshell: hot, humid, and hang-on-to-your-sunscreen.
The Farmers’ Almanac is sounding the alarm with an “Excessive Heat Warning” for much of the country, and Philly is definitely in the hot seat.
According to Farmers’ Almanac, we’re in for a “very long, hot summer“.
Specifically, July 2025 could be one for the record books with “unrelenting” heat, especially in urban zones like Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.
But it’s not all sweat and sunburns. In recent years, the Northeast has seen some unusually rainy summers, but 2025 is expected to be closer to normal on the rainfall front.
Indeed, you’ll still want to keep an umbrella handy for the occasional downpour, but it won’t feel like we’re living inside a rain cloud.
So, what about summer holidays?
Additionally, Farmers’ Almanac offered weather predictions for summer’s two main holidays.
4th of July Forecast:
Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Northeast from July 4-7, which could throw a wrench in some backyard BBQs or fireworks plans. But hey — in Philly, it’ll take more than rain to stop our parade…and parties.
Labor Day Weekend:
The Almanac predicts storms on Labor Day (September 1), followed by son pleasant, breezy weather. That means the unofficial end of summer might feel like a refreshing cool-down we all desperately need.
