Just a few days into the New Year and we are already looking at our first chance of significant snowfall. Specifically, beginning Sunday night into Monday, a snow storm is blasting its way through the East Coast and bringing inches to our area. Just how much snow are we expected to get? We’ve got the deets!
Snow storm 2025
As temperatures began to fall Saturday, city officials and crew members began prepping for the impending snow. In fact, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, released the following statement ahead of the first snow storm of 2025:
– Ahead of the anticipated winter weather event, Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and the City of Philadelphia advise motorists to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm and exercise caution when driving.
Today, the Streets Department crews will pre-treat major roadways to help prevent ice from forming a bond with the roadway surface during the early stages of the storm. When needed, the City will have up to 200 pieces of equipment on the streets to ensure that all neighborhoods are addressed in the event of a major storm.
Expected snowfall totals
According to meteorologists, it is still too early to tell exactly how many inches of snow will fall over Philly.
Basically, it all depends on the track of the storm.
If the storm fun farther north, it will mean more snow.
Whereas, if the system tracks farther south, that means much less snow.
Generally speaking, the storm has the likely potential to produce 2 inches of snow across the city. However, there is the potential for higher accumulation of 2-5 inches in the city and 2-4 in the suburbs.
In any case, per the National Weather Service, the Philadelphia region is under a winter weather advisory for Sunday evening into Monday morning.
Be sure to stay up-t0-date on how the storm is progressing, school closings, and road closures.
