After weeks of speculation surrounding his NBA future, LeBron James has officially announced that he’s joining the Philadelphia 76ers.
The four-time NBA champion shared the news Friday morning in a post on X, releasing that Philadelphia will be the next—and what he says will be the final—stop in his legendary career.
“I still truly love this game, and I have more to give,” James said in his announcement. He added that after taking time to reflect following the season, he realized he still wanted “to compete, to win, and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.”
James said he believes he can help transform the Sixers into a championship team.
“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”

The announcement follows months of uncertainty after reports surfaces that James and the Los Angeles Lakers were preparing to part ways following eights seasons together. Rumors linked the NBA superstar to several potential destinations, including reunions with the Cleveland Cavaliers or Miami Heat, as well as a possible move to the Golden State Warriors.
Instead, the 41-year-old will head to Philadelphia for what he described as his final NBA decision.
James enters his 24th NBA season, extending his own league record for the most seasons played. During his Hall of Fame career, he became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and captured championships with the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers.
His arrival instantly reshapes expectations for the Sixers, giving Philadelphia one of the most accomplished players in basketball history as the franchise continues its pursuit of an NBA title.
