If you’re wiling to trade a little sleep for a cheaper train ticket, Amtrak has expanded its Night Owl fares to include more low-cost trips between Philadelphia and cities along the Northeast Corridor.
The discounted fares are available on select trains departing between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., with service covering cities between Washington, D.C., and Boston. That means Philadelphia travelers can take advantage of lower fares for evening and early-morning journeys without giving up the usual perks of Amtrak Coach service.
Philly Night Owl fares start at just $10
For Philly travelers, Amtrak lists several one-way Coach fares at surprisingly low prices. Sample fare include:
- Philadelphia to Baltimore/BWI: $10
- New York City of Philadelphia: $10
- Philadelphia to Washington, D.C.: $10
- Boston to Philadelphia: $25
The fares are available in both directions where applicable, but actual prices depend on the train, date, and availability. Discounted seats are limited, so travelers may not see these prices of every departure.
What you’ll get for the fare
Night Owl passengers still receive Amtrak’s standard Coach experience. This includes spacious leather seats, plenty of legroom, free Wi-Fi, and power outlets at your seat.
Travelers can also bring one personal item and two bags for free, making the train an especially convenient option for a quick city getaway.
There’s also no middle seat, and passengers can use the Quiet Car when available.
