Let them eat cake! July 14th is Bastille Day and here’s how you can celebrate like a true Parisian. From French-inspired cuisine to engaging festivities, here are four things you can do today in Philly to celebrate Bastille Day.
What is Bastille Day?
Bastille Day, also known as French National Day, is a significant holiday celebrated on July 14th each year. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in Paris on July 14, 1789, which marked a pivotal moment in the French Revolution.
This event symbolizes the uprising of the French people against the monarchy and the fight for liberty, equality, and fraternity. Bastille Day is celebrated with grand festivities throughout France, including military parades, fireworks, concerts, and communal gatherings.
Indeed, it serves as a reminder of the values of democracy, human rights, and the pursuit of freedom that are deeply ingrained in French history and culture. Additionally, Bastille Day is often seen as a celebration of French identity and unity, bringing people together to honor their shared heritage and the ideals that shape their nation. Today, it is celebrated all over the world.
