Philadelphia is getting a very special group of performers this fall. Trained rescue cats who can skateboard, jump through hoops, balance on balls, and even play music instruments are coming to the city.
The Amazing Acro-Cats, who were featured in Netflix’s Cat People, will take over the Suzanne Roberts Theatre from Sept. 2 through Sept. 5 for a 90-minute show packed with feline tricks, acrobatics, and music.
The troupe is made up of former orphans, rescues, and strays who have been trained using positive reinforcement. Throughout the performance, the cats will show off their skills by riding skateboards, ringing bells, jumping through hoops, and performing other feats of agility.
The show ends with an all-cat rock band
The grand finale features Tuna and the Rock Cats, billed as the only all-cat band in the world. The feline musicians play guitar, drums, and piano, while the Jazz Cats have also joined performances on saxophone, trumpet, and clarinet.
The Amazing Acro-Cats have made appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl, CBS News Sunday Morning, PBS NOVA’s Cat Tales, and the podcast This Past Weekend with Theo Von.
The Philadelphia show supports local cat rescues
The Acro-Cats tour supports Rock Cats Rescue, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit focused on cat welfare, rescue, and adoption. Since 2009, the organization has helped find homes for hundreds of cats and kittens while promoting the benefits of bonding with and training cats through positive reinforcement.
Each Philadelphia performance will also feature a local rescue partner. PURR Philly will be represented on Sept. 2, Project MEOW on Sept. 3, Morris Animal Refuge on Sept. 4, and Green Street Rescue — which operates Le Cat Café— on Sept. 5.
Local rescue partners will receive a portion of ticket sales. Attendees can visit their tables in the lobby to learn more about supporting cats in Philadelphia.
Amazing Acro-Cats Philadelphia event details
The shows will take place at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, 480 South Broad Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. and performances beginning 7 p.m. Tickets start at $32. The theater offers reserved seating for all tickets.
The show welcomes guests 5 and older. The venue does not all laser pointers, smoking, outside food and drinks, and animals.
For the ultimate Acro-Cats experience, VIP seating includes access to the post-show Meet & Greet, with front-row VIP tickets also including a Purrbill.
