Looks like there’s “Bad Blood” with Taylor Swift and one local radio station…at least temporarily! As we all know (or should know) Pennsylvania native and musical icon, Taylor Swift is dating Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs. Travis, is one half of the famous Kelce brothers, with brother Jason Kelce playing for our beloved Philadelphia Eagles.
Well, Monday night the Eagles take on the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. In a city that bleeds green, it’s all about our Eagles.
A Ban On Taylor Swift
One local radio station is proving just how important it is for our Birds to feel the energy and love from its hometown. In preparation for Monday night’s game, Q102 has temporarily banned all Taylor Swift songs from its airways until after the game.
Buster Satterfield, an on-air personality and the program director for the station, stated in a November 16 press release the logical reasoning behind the move. “The Eagle/ Chiefs Game is Monday night, and we need the Birds to focus,” Satterfield said. “Q102 Loves Taylor Swift as much as the rest of the world but this weekend, the only Swift and Kelce we recognize play for the Birds.”
Flip-Flopping Swiftie
Taylor, who grew up in Reading, PA, was up until recently, an Eagles fan herself. In Swift’s 2020 hit “Gold Rush” the singer sings about a “Eagles T-shirt hanging from the door.” In a video later shared by NFL, the popstar confirmed the T-shirt hanging from the door was actually a tribute to the team.
“Guys, like, c’mon. I’m from Philly. Of course it’s the team,” Swift told the cheering crowd in the video.
Surprisingly, a Kelce brother can make you have a change of heart.
For some die-hard Swiftie and Eagles fan, seeing Taylor, our hometown hero, now donning a Chiefs jersey can feel like downright betrayal.
After all, who can forget The Kansas City Chiefs beat our beloved Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
Monday’s night game is personal to Philly. For now, hold the distractions, Taylor included.
Q102 will resume playing Taylor Swift’s music November 21st, 2023.
