This sentiment rang true today after the Philadelphia Eagles announced it would be extending Barkley’s contract.
The team announced Tuesday that a two-year $41.2 million dollar contract extension was offered to Barkley.
He agreed -although this doesn’t come as a shock to Eagles fan and sports aficionados.
After all, he had a victorious season to say the least. Indeed, Saquon Barkley deserves such a ground-breaking contract extension.
Saquon Barkley had 345 carries for 2,005 yards and scored 15 touchdowns in 16 games in 2024. He was selected to play in his third Pro Bowls. He won his first Offensive Player of the Year award and his first championship.
Undeniably, he was a key component to the Philadelphia Eagles winning their second Super Bowl and Lombardi Trophy.
Moreover, Barkley was not only breaking ankles but also records. In fact, during the season he set the Eagles franchise record for single-season rushing yards and was well on his way to setting the NFL record but did not play in the final season game.
And he isn’t done yet.
According to sources, the new contract extension makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
Of the $41.2 million dollars, $36 million dollars is fully guaranteed at signing.
Barkley also has the ability to earn an additional $15 million in incentives and escalators.
Records aside, Saquon Barkley has been an invigorating asset to the Birds since joining the team in 2024.
