Phillies-Nationals Game Postponed Because Of COVID Outbreak Is Happening Today

Wednesday’s game was postponed and will take place Thursday.

Two hours before the first pitch was supposed to start off the game Wednesday, July 28, the game was called off due “to allow for continued testing and contact tracing involving members of the Nationals organization,” Major League Baseball announced.

Indeed, “multiple players have tested positive” for COVID said ESPN’s columnist Jeff Passan. It all started with Trea Turner, Washington Nationals’ shortstop, who was removed Tuesday from the first inning of Washington’s 6-4 win over Philadelphia for testing positive. According to Manager Davey Martinez “[Turner] played the game, started the game as normal, and like I said, the first time I heard of it, the protocol is to get him out and get him isolated as soon as possible,” but that didn’t stop the virus from still spreading to other players. Indeed, this is the third outbreak of the season.

The game will be postponed until Thursday, July 29 as part of a straight doubleheader with the first pitch of Game 1 being at 12:05 p.m.
