It’s no secret- Philly is a city know for its rich history and vibrant culture. But, did you know the city also boasts a dark side? In fact, Philadelphia was recently ranked the second most haunted international location in the world.
Philly’s most haunted
In a recent listing, Planet Cruise ranked the most international hotspots. Apparently, Philly is not only the City of Brotherly Love but the city of ghostly love too. It was listed as the second most haunted location in the world thanks to one infamous, abandoned prison.
Indeed, one of the most notorious haunted spots in Philadelphia is Eastern State Penitentiary. This abandoned prison, once the most famous and expensive in the word, held some of the country’s most dangerous criminals, including Al Capone.
Walk through the eerie stone corridors if you dare -some say you can hear the voices and footsteps of former inmates.
Moreover, many visitors and ghost hunters report seeing shadowy figures and unexplained sounds, making it one of the most haunted locations in the world.
According to Planet Cruise, the only place in the world more spookier than Eastern State, is Mary King’s Close in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Visit Eastern State Penitentiary
Now through November 9th, thrill-seekers can experience “Halloween Nights” at Eastern State Penitentiary. This annual spooky-season spectacle features different haunted attractions spread across the prison cellblocks and prison yards.
Next, for guests 21+, enjoy a prohibition-themed cocktail in Al Capone’s cell! Or stop by one of the specialty shops, take a hospital flashlight tour, and even see a monster-themed live musical show.
While “Halloween Nights’ combines the festivities and fun of spooky season in Philadelphia, visitors beware! Every year thousands of people report scary and spooky interactions.
Maybe the prison isn’t abandoned after all, and true to its reputation, rife with the spirits of formers guards and inmates whose sentence included life…and death.
