Move over Fallon, Colbert, & Kimmel! Former Philadelphia Eagles’ center Jason Kelce may be on his way to late-night television. Reportedly, the retired football player is currently in talks with ESPN to host a late-night tv show featuring athletes and other celebrities.
Late night with Jason Kelce
Since his retirement last year from the NFL after 13 seasons, Philly’s favorite Eagle has been soaring high. From Wawa commercials to Taylor Swift concerts, the world can’t get enough of Jason Kelce.
Indeed, for good reason.
And now, ESPN has their eyes set on the retired athlete to help attract a younger audience to the network. Specifically, in an age where YouTube and Tik Tok boasts more viewers -in some cases- than traditional television stations, signing on Kelce could be a promising endeavor.
Kelce already hosts his hugely-popular podcast “New Heights” with his little brother (and Taylor Swifts’ beau) Travis Kelce. Moreover, over the last few months, Kelce has been a a regular on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” breaking down all the NFL action.
Still drawing plays
According to John Ourand at Puck, Kelce’s people and ESPN are still drawing plays on how things should go if the late-night does get the green light. Ourand notes, that it wouldn’t be a highlight or recap show. Rather, he writes, “the concept that seems to have gained the most traction is a late-night show, featuring Kelce with other athletes and celebrities”.
Sources say the show would be produced by NFL Films and licensed to ESPN.
If given the green light, it would air on five consecutive Friday nights, beginning in January.
The network hopes the show will garner a younger audience.
Additionally, with Kelce’s magnetism, wit, and humor, we can anticipate show clips that go viral on social media.
So, who’s ready for some late-night with Jason Kelce! Go Birds!
