This ain’t Texas….it’s Philadelphia and it’s no secret, there’s no place like Philly. No truer a statement than Tuesday morning when something unexpected happened on interstate I-95. Video submitted to WPVI, caught a horse galloping away right down the interstate in the wee hours of the morning.
We’re Not Horsing Around
Yes, this really happened and no we aren’t horsing around.
Angelo Palmer, who shot the video, was driving down the highway when much to his astonishment a horse was alongside him running free on I-95 northbound near the Girard Avenue exit.
Luckily, there were no reported injuries for either the horse or any drivers. In fact, because it happened before morning rush hour, there was no traffic and hardly any drivers on the road.
After the video when viral across the internet and social platforms, many people immediately wondered where the horse came from. Was he trying to escape? Who was his owner?
However, police said it does not appear to have escaped a horse trailer.
In fact, they believe it ran away from one of Philly’s urban riding clubs.
If you’ve been in Philly long enough, you know this is not an uncommon thing.
Hold On To Your Horses
Indeed, the horse has since been caught and is safe. Police corralled the animal in the Port Richmond section of the city after making it off the highway without incident.
Afterwards, the animal was picked up and taken back to a safe location.
Next, it was hydrated and replenished with cold “wooder”.
Lastly, FOX29 uploaded a video showing the horse being loaded into a trailer.
Based on its hoofs, the horse is believed to be a Clydesdale. Clydesdales can run up to 20 mph and are described as “gentle giants,” according to Strathorn Farm Stables, a horse riding school in Scotland.
Hold on to your horses Philly!
