Edgar Allan Poe is well known for his brilliant yet bone-chilling works of literature. And while the infamous author lived in a number of East Coast cities throughout his lifetime, his Philadelphia residence is said to be the location where he wrote some of his most noteworthy stories – including The Mask of the Red Death!
Situated on North Seventh Street about a mile from Independence Hall, the historic building is now maintained by the National Park Service. After touring the home and marveling at the giant raven statue outside, you can visit the reading room and listen to a dramatic recitation of Poe’s work.
If you find yourself itching for more eerie Poe readings following your visit, you’re in luck! A one-of-a-kind Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy is in town this fall, setting up shop at Craft Hall (only a five minute drive from the Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site). The immersive cocktail experience will bring Poe’s work onto the stage through retellings of four of his infamous stories, each paired with a specialty cocktail.
The unique Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy is only in town from October 12th to 15th, so you’ll want to grab your tickets as soon as you can! Taking place at Craft Hall, the experience is open to those 21 and over. Tickets start at $55 and include four complimentary cocktails!
