The start of baseball season and the home opener are less than four weeks away. However, Philadelphia Phillies fans received some disheartening news. After 27 years, the franchise will be doing away with “Dollar Dog Nights”.
The End of ‘Dollar Dog Nights’
Indeed, it’s the end of a beloved tradition. Philadelphia Phillies fans will have to say goodbye to “Dollar Dog Nights”. The change comes after a massive food fight in 2023 that resulted in several people having to be ejected from Citizens Bank Park.
Of course, this is sad news. “Dollar Dog Nights” was a beloved tradition first beginning in 1997. However, the Phillies reportedly conducted a survey where many fans did not enjoy the night.
“Unfortunately we had fans throwing hotdogs, back and forth and we just can’t have that,” said John Webber, Senior Vice President of the Phillies Ticket Operations and Projects. “It was not a good experience for our fans who came to the game last year. That’s the bottom line, and our goal is to change that and make it a good experience for all our fans.”
Introducing ‘BOGO Nights’
While many fans are not feeling too hot about the end, all is not lost. The Philadelphia Phillies announced a replacement.
“The introduction of BOGO Hot Dog Nights, in lieu of Dollar Dog Nights, reflects our ongoing commitment to provide a positive experience for all fans in attendance,” the Phillies said in a statement.
The Hatfield Phillies Franks BOGO Nights will be April 2 and April 16.
Specifically, fans can buy one hot dog at regular price and get the second hot dog for free at concession stands throughout the ballpark.
This modification to the previous special is based on the organization’s ongoing commitment to provide a positive experience for all fans in attendance.
