Cinco de Mayo is here Philly! Every year on this date we celebrate Mexican culture with fiestas and food! Mexican staples such as all things tequila and tacos reign supreme. There’s plenty of places in the city for Philadelphians to partake in the festivities. We’ve rounded up five places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo today in the city. Cheers!
1. El Rey
Celebrate Cinco De Mayo this Friday at El Rey with limited edition food and drink specials, custom merch giveaways, DJ entertainment and restaurant wide Lotteria games to play with the table. Drink specials include the frozen Chinola Passion Fruit Margarita, Tamarind Margarita, Sangria pitchers, jello shots, and more. Food specials are also on the menu including a Sonoran hot dog, bacon wrapped hot dog, refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos, chipotle mayo. For taco lovers specifically, try the puffy taco, crispy flour tortillas, refried beans, seasoned ground beef, queso mixto, lettuce, pico de gallo, salsa roja, crema. 2. El Vez
El Vez will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a vibrant street celebration from 2-8pm. The street will be blocked off beginning at 2pm, as guests indulge in unexpected interpretations of classic Mexican cuisine and delicious margaritas. Not to mention, guests can also sway to the beat while enjoying musical entertainment from Latin influenced DJ, Ozkarzoara. 3. LMNO
LMNO is celebrating this Friday with an extended bar happy hour from 4-8pm, accompanied by Latin inspired music from DJ Shino. Guests can sit at the indoor-outdoor bar to enjoy the extended happy hour, and complement LMNO’s unique Baja Mexican cuisine with a frozen red sangria drink special available throughout the day. 4. Hard Rock Cafe
Hard Rock Cafe Philadelphia is celebrating Cinco de Mayo offering customers an array of festive food & drink options, coupled with an entertaining mariachi band! The menu includes jumbo margaritas in the flavors Baja California Blackberry, Mexico City Mango, and Cancun Orange Cadillac along with food staples like Tequila Lime Marinated Chicken Fajitas and Chips & Queso. 5. Garden Restaurant at The Barnes Foundation
The hidden restaurant located within the Barnes Foundation features a lush outdoor dining area. Indulge in special Mexican dishes, available on Cinco de Mayo only. The one day only menu includes not only chips & dip, chicken tamales, tofu tacos, but also esquites, spicy blood orange margarita, and more.
Moreover, stick around and explore a special First Friday programming at the Barnes foundation, featuring live music & a special art exhibition. Live music will be courtesy of Grammy-nominated South African musician and bandleader, Sharon Katz.
Lastly, first Friday at the Barnes includes access to the collection galleries and to Sue Williamson & Lebohang Kganye: Tell Me What You Remember, featuring artwork by two of South Africa’s leading artists, in dialogue together for the first time.
