The Candlelight series is gifting Philadelphians with a special performance at World Cafe Live this Pride Month. As the City that Loves You Back is flooded by the festivities of fun street fests and Philly is going all out to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, you can escape the city’s hustle and bustle at an intimate Candlelight concert inspired by queer musical icons.
You can expect to be spellbound by classical renditions of expressive chart-topping hits and famous compositions, including Sam Smith’s “Unholy” and Janelle Monáe’s “Pynk”. The carefully selected setlist includes some of the most influential pioneers in the music industry. Unwind at a venue declared to be “a space for a universe of musical possibilities.”
Candlelight Pride: Celebrating Queer Musical Icons
Whether they are releasing queer anthems, continuing to be unapologetically themselves, representing the struggles of the past or actively promoting LGBTQ+ rights, artists such as Brandi Carlisle, Stephen Sondheim, and Fanny Mendelssohn are in one way or another LGBTQ+ advocates and icons. From Sam Smith’s controversial performances to fabulous provocateurs like Lil Nas X, fans identify with these honest and sexually expressive legends.
Pride Month sees people around the world celebrating the right to be yourself, and Candlelight is joining in on the celebrations with a spectacular classical performance on June 28. End the vibrant month of June on a memorable note while listening to awe-inspiring recreations of music by Elton John, Chopin, Janelle Monáe, and more performed by a classically-trained Listeso String Quartet.
