The city of brotherly love scored another big accolade in USA TODAY and 10best.com’s Choice Awards Contest. Philly was voted the best city for street art, taking the number one slot ahead of other destinations including Miami, Houston and Atlanta.
“Philadelphia’s vibrant street art scene quite literally paints a picture of our great city’s diverse people, history and culture. Bringing its rich stories to life in a visually intriguing way,” says Angela Val, president and CEO at Visit Philadelphia. “Philadelphia’s public and street art offerings have become international icons and can’t-miss attractions. This recognition is a tremendous moment to celebrate our public art, the artists who create it, and shine a light on the broad range of art experiences visitors and residents can have in Philadelphia.”
Best City For Street Art
Indeed, the top nod is quite befitting of the city. Undoubtedly, Philadelphia is considered the mural arts capital of the world. Much of the murals we see throughout the city can be specifically attributed to the Mural Arts Program.
For almost 40 years the Mural Arts program has created over 4,000 murals throughout the city. Moreover, artists, creators, and communities are united through the passion for mural arts in Philly.
“When people come to Philadelphia, they can see the power of art all around them,” Jane Golden, executive director of Mural Arts, said in a statement. “Being recognized as the No. 1 city for street art is such an honor and testament to the people who love our city and live right here in our neighborhoods. I hope this accolade helps to amplify the stories of Philadelphia that live on our walls, in our streets and in our communities.”
Philly Love
Markedly, Philadelphia also scored another top spot in the ranking. USA TODAY named Philadelphia the most walkable city in the country. Furthermore, Philadelphia was named the 3rd most budget-friendly destination. It’s no surprise why people love Philly!
