Water-Ice, Pretzels, Tastykakes are just some of the yummy nom noms Philly is known for. Of all of our iconic things to eat, nothing screams Philly quite like the Philly Cheesesteak. March 24th is National Cheesesteak Day where we celebrate the beefy, cheesy gooey goodness in all of its glory (yes, I know Philly, we celebrate this everyday).
In honor of such a holiday, we’ve listed our top five favorite places to get a Cheesesteak in Philly (that aren’t tourist spots). Narrowing it down to five proved harder than trying to decide “wit” or “witout”!
1. Angelo’s Pizzeria South Philly
Angelo’s Pizzeria South Philly tops the list for our favorite Cheesesteak places in the city. Maybe it’s the perfectly seasoned beef, or the Cooper cheese or the soft perfectly baked roll that ignites a taste bud party. However you like your steak, wit or witout onions, hot cheese wiz or sharp provolone, Angelo’s does the Philly Cheesesteak reputation savory justice.
Where: 736 S. 9th Street Philadelphia, PA, 19147
2. Philly’s Finest Pizza
True to their name, Philly’s Finest Pizza has one of the finest cheesesteaks we’ve had the pleasure of trying in a long time. With over 300k Tik Tok views, it was worth the try and it’s more than safe to say it lives up to the hype. The Cheesesteak is full of flavor with their house made sauce, a delicious seeded roll, and the perfect combo of meet and cheesy goodness. Yum!
Where: 7962 Dungan Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19111
3. The Rook Manayunk
100% Rib eye beef served on a hot toasted roll straight from Sarcone’s Bakery– it doesn’t get any better than this! The Rook’s Cheesesteak is absolutely delicious and served on the Philly’s favorite Italian bread since 1918. Such a combo is a Cheesesteak marriage made in food heaven.
Where: 4001 Cresson St, Philadelphia, PA 19127
4. Max’s Steaks
One may argue that this is a tourist spot, but there’s no such thing as a best Cheesesteak place in Philly without including Max’s Steaks. Once voted best in the city by Playboy magazine, Max’s was also featured in Creed II where Adonis first hears of boxer Viktor Drago’s challenge for a fight and also learns the meaning of jawn. It doesn’t get any more Philly than that! Kevin Hart is also a fan of Max’s and we understand why!
Where: 3653 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19140
5. Dalessandro’s Steaks
Chances are if you’re driving through Roxborough on Henry Ave, there’s always a line outside of Dalessandro’s Steaks and for a great reason. Their steaks are beefy, cheesy, and big. There’s also plenty of toppings to beef up your steak even more (we suggest the pickled peppers). After a night on the town, Dalessandro’s is sure to warm you up with a full belly. We recommend calling ahead as it does get very busy.
Where: 600 Wendover St, Philadelphia, PA 19128
There are plenty of amazing places in the City of Brotherly Cheesesteak Love to indulge and celebrate National Cheesesteak Day. We hope that your belly is full of cheese, beef, and Philly pride today!
