Indeed, it’s one of the busiest travel days of the year. With Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa holidays ahead, many Americans are hitting the road to spend time with loved ones, friends, and family. However, Amtrak service is currently suspended between Philadelphia and New York Penn Station.
The suspension in service is due to down overhead wires.
Amtrak service suspended
As a result, Amtrak issued the following statement:
“Customers with reservations on affected trains will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day. Amtrak will waive additional charges for customers looking to change their reservation during the modified schedule by calling our reservation center at 1-800-USA-RAIL.”
Amtrak originally stated service will resume by 10am however, it is now expected to resume by noon.
Lastly, Amtrak stated repair crews are on the scene working to repair the downed wires.
Passengers inconvenienced by the Amtrak service being suspended have the option to change their reservation at no additional charge.
Services are expected to resume fully.
Busiest travel day
With the holidays here, the busiest travel days of the season are also upon us. Nevertheless, Amtrak is still a smart way to travel.
Specifically, when you travel with Amtrak, travelers can enjoy spacious, reclining seats with plenty of legroom and zero middle seats.
Additionally, traveling by train can shrink carbon footprints. Additionally, by accessing one of the most sustainable modes of transportation, Amtrak says their customers may lessen up to 83% of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to driving and up to 72% compared to flying.
Lastly, if you are visiting Philadelphia or passing through, the city is filled with plenty of things to do during the holiday season including holiday markets, spectacular light shows, and magical annual events like Christmas Village.
‘Tis the season!
