The city’s most anticipated floral tradition is ready to bloom once again. The 2026 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Philadelphia Flower Show has unveiled its them—”Rooted: Origins of American Gardening.” This year’s show pays homage to the deep history and enduring traditions that have shaped American gardening, coinciding beautifully with Philadelphia’s 250th anniversary of independence.
Here’s your first look at what’s blooming at the 2026 Flower Show.
A Journey Through Time and Tradition
Notably, the 2026 theme marks the final chapter in a three-year trilogy exploring the past, present, and future of gardening.
In 2024, United By Flowers honored the bonds and sense of community that blossom when people come together through the joy of gardening.
Next, in 2025, Gardens of Tomorrow looked ahead, showcasing visionary floral installations that reimagined what the future of gardening could become.
And now, 2026’s Rooted: Origins of American Gardening will take visitors on a journey to past, honoring the cultures and traditions that have helped to shape the seeds of today’s gardening.
The show will bring to life personal stories, cultural traditions, and horticultural inspiration through immersive garden exhibits and floral displays.
Seth Pearsoll, Vice President and Creative Director of the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show commented,
This year’s Flower Show feels especially personal because every plant or garden carries a story behind it. We all have memories tied to plants and Rooted: Origins of American Gardening is about sharing those diverse experiences and the ways they connect us. It will be a show filled with memory, meaning, and incredible creativity.
