Philadelphia is gearing up for one of its biggest annual events as the 47th Annual Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run returns on Sunday, May 3. Known as the largest 10-mile race in the country, the event will bring 40,000 runners through the heart of the city.
The race begins at 7 a.m., with the wheelchair division starting at 6:55 a.m. Runners will kick off near Central High School and travel the full length of Broad Street, finishing at the historic Navy Yard.

The Broad Street Run isn’t just a race, it’s an iconic Philly tradition. Stretching 10 miles from North Philly to South Philly, it attracts runners from all across the country each year.
Beyond the race itself, the event brings major energy to the city, with spectators lining Broad Street and neighborhoods coming alive early in the morning.
Road closures for the Broad Street Run
If you’re planning to be out and about, expect significant road closures. Broad Street will be closed from Olney Avenue all the way to the Navy Yard starting as early as 2 a.m., with phased closures continuing throughout the race.
Specifically, drivers should:

- 🚗 Expect roads to reopen by noon
The city will enforce “No Parking” restrictions along the route, with signs posted in advance.
How will SEPTA service chance on race day?

Public transit is one of the best ways to get around during the race. SEPTA will offer early morning service, with Broad Street Line running as early as 4 a.m.

- 🚏 SEPTA Bus Routes 3, 4, 7, 9, 12, 16, 17, 21, 23, 27, 29, 31, 32, 33, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 48, 53, 54, 56, 60, 61, 63, 64, 68, 71, 75, 79, 81, 82, 124 and 125 will be detoured from their normal routes beginning as early as 5:45 am through approximately 5 pm on Sunday, May 3

Safety and preparation are key. Officials encourage everyone to stay updated on weather and race alerts, and to follow instructions from police along the route.
