A century-old South Philadelphia tradition is set to fill the streets once again with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Italy. The Annual St. Nicholas of Tolentine Authentic Italian Festival returns on Sunday, October 5, from noon to 8 p.m., transforming the 1700 block of South 9th Street into one of the city’s most vibrant celebrations of heritage and community.
St. Nicholas Italian Festival: a procession steeped in tradition

The day begins with a moving religious procession through the neighborhood, where statues of beloved saints are carried through the streets, accompanied by the renowned Verdi Band playing traditional Italian marches.
The opening ritual reflects the festival’s roots, dating back to the early 1900s when Italian immigrants established St. Nicholas Parish to preserve their faith and culture.
A feast of Italian flavors

After the procession, the festival shifts into high gear with an irresistible lineup of food and drink.
Local favorites like Marra’s Pizza, Termini Bros. Bakery, The Kitchen Consigliere, and Del Buono Bakery will serve authentic Italian dishes ranging from sausage and peppers to arancini, porchetta sandwiches, and delicate pastries.
Beer, wine, and cordials add to the festive atmosphere, while kid-friendly treats like sandy candy and carnival rides ensure there’s something for every age.
Music, dancing, & entertainment

The entertainment roster is just as rich as the food.
Expect performances from:
- Matthew Maisano
- The Vivaci Dancers
- Elegance String Quartet
- Moreno Fruzzetti
- Quaker City String Band
- City Rhythm “Sound of Philadelphia Dance Party”
Additionally, DJs Spanky Brown and Bob Kelly will keep the energy high throughout the day, making sure there’s never a quiet moment on 9th Street.
