Tonight, the moon glows a little brighter over Philly. July’s Full Buck Moon -named for the time of the year when male deer start to regrow their antlers- will rise in glory tonight, and it’s expected to be one of the most stunning lunar shows of the summer.
If the skies stay clear, Philly will have a front-row seat to this celestial event, and trust us, it’s worth stepping outside for.
The Buck Moon will officially rise at 8:55 PM ET on July 10 and set at 4:59 AM on July 11. While you’ll still see it shining brightly well into the night, the best time to catch it glowing low and large on the horizon is right around moonrise, which is just after sunset.
Also, tonight’s ‘Buck Moon’ will be the farthest full moon from the sun in 2025.
Indeed, there’s something special about watching the moon climb above the skyline in Philly.
Whether you’re on the Ben Franklin Bridge, along Boathouse Row, or posted up at your favorite rooftop bar, tonight’s moonrise adds a little enchantment to the city.
If you’re into moon photography or just need a reason to slow down and take in something beautiful, tonight’s the night.
Don’t miss tonight’s Full Buck Moon
If you plan on gazing at the moon, here’s how to make the most of it:
- head somewhere with a clear view of the eastern horizon like Kelly drive, Fairmount Park, or a local Philly rooftop
- bring binoculars or a telescope if you’ve got one
- charge your phone if you’re planning to capture it for Instagram (bonus points if you tag #mysecretphiladelphia)
So pour a drink, take a deep breath, and let the universe show off a little.
The Buck Moon waits for no one, but it always shows up exactly when we need a reminder to pause and look up.
