The 2025 Emmy nominations have been released and once again, Philly shines bright. From Quinta Brunson to Coleman Domingo, Philly talent is making headlines with this year’s nominations.
Abbott Elementary scores 2025 Emmy nominations

The 2025 Emmy nominations just dropped and Philly’s favorite fictional public school is once again a serious contender.
ABC’s Abbott Elementary, the brainchild of West Philadelphia native Quinta Brunson, is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series- its fourth straight nod since debuting.
A win this year would be its first in the top comedy category.
Quinta Brunson isn’t just the creator of Abbott but also stars in the heartfelt sitcom set in a struggling Philly school.
Brunson herself scored another Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nomination for her role as Janine Teagues, the overachieving second-grade teacher who can’t quite catch a break.
Important to note, Brunson made headlines in 2023 when she became the first Black woman to win in that category since 1981. This year, she’s up against heavy hitters like Jean Smart (Hacks), Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), Uzo Aduba (The Residence), and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear).
Additionally, two more Abbott powerhouses, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James, were also nominated for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Ralph already won in 2022, and this marks James’ fourth nomination.
Together, they’ve brought chaotic joy, shade, and sharp with to Philly’s favorite fictional faculty.
Colman Domingo brings West Philly grit to Netflix

Another West Philly standout, Colman Domingo, landed a Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series nomination for Netflix’s The Four Seasons.
Domingo’s no stranger to the Emmys -he took home a statue in 2021 for his powerful guest role in Euphoria.
So, who’s leading the pack this year?
HBO’s Severance scored the most nominations overall with 27 total.
Next, The Penguin, with 24 and The White Lotus with 23.
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards air September 14, 2025 at 8 p.m. from the Peacock Theater in LA.
